Atthowe Fine Art Services

A legacy of art, community and ownership: remembering Scott Atthowe

Scott Atthowe was more than a business owner—he was a visionary who believed in the power of art, community and collaboration. Building on his family’s legacy, he transformed a trucking company into a specialized fine arts handling and installation business renowned throughout the country.

Scott’s passing earlier this year marks the end of an era, but his vision and values endure in the company he nurtured. His decision to transition Atthowe Fine Art Services into a worker-owned cooperative, with the support of Project Equity, ensures that the employees who helped build the company now share in its success.

Scott’s journey—from artist to business owner to advocate for employee ownership—is a story of commitment and foresight. With consolidation threatening the fine arts services industry, Scott resisted the pressures to sell to larger corporations. Instead, he chose to preserve Atthowe’s independence and secure the livelihoods of his employees by selling the business to them.

To honor his memory, we’re sharing a video featuring interviews with Scott and the dedicated worker-owners of Atthowe. In their words, you’ll hear the impact of Scott’s decision and the legacy he left behind.

Scott’s life and work exemplify the promise of employee ownership: a model where businesses thrive, employees prosper and legacies endure. At Project Equity, we’re proud to have supported Scott and his team in realizing this vision.
